Nimal Nepal Kathmandu, June 24, 2016– What would you do if you were packed in in a truck, tied from your nose, without water or food, for over a day, and then upon arrival got hit with a hammer by a butcher, trying to kill you with entirely outdated methods? Animal Nepal launched a campaign Stop the trucks and Sledgehammers, after another buffalo escaped from a slaughterhouse creating havoc at the capital city. The buffalo had sledgehammer marks on his forehead which clearly meant that the the animal had escaped from slaughterhouse nearby. Animal Nepal recently sent a Letter to editor The Himalayan Times against inhumane transportation and killing of buffaloes.
Animals have been paying us their life for fulfilling our basic needs since the beginning of mankind. But are their basic needs fulfilled in terms of food, shelter, and health, in providing for human needs? Definitely not! And the case in buffalo in Nepal is the worst of all! The cruel reality is that they have to undergo pain, hunger, torture and many more inhumane treatments at slaughterhouses and during their transportation before turning into a plate of momos! Nepal is probably the only country in the world without humane slaughterhouses. Buffaloes, including mothers with babies, are transported in a most cruel manner, and killed with sledgehammers and knives, mostly out in the open. The fate of goats, pigs and poultry is hardly any better.
