Sharing the Load of Mountain Mules of Gorkha

On 21st November 2016, Animal Nepal team headed to Soti for 3 day long “Wound and Hoof Management Training” for the mule owners and handlers of Gorkha district.

The journey was definitely not easy! After reaching Soti we learned that there were only a few handlers arriving to Soti to collect some goods who were then supposed to head back to upper station called ‘Machi Khola’ early next morning.

AN team left their hotel at 7:00 am in the morning with an aim to reach the handlers and owners on time for a training session. On our way we encountered mules suffering from harness wounds. Some wounds were bad enough to leave us with chill and goosebumps. Continue reading “Sharing the Load of Mountain Mules of Gorkha”

Forging a Path of Compassion in the Land Of Buddha

Kathmandu, November, 2016– With the sweet smell of burning incense and chanting of “Namo tassa bhagavato..” the birth place of Gautama Buddha came alive this November when a group of compassionate people joined hands to help animals at Lumbini.

Lumbini is a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site located at Rupandehi District of Nepal. This is where queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE who later came to be known as Gautama Buddha, founder of Buddhism. Lumbini has a number of temples, monuments, monasteries and museums within the holy site and is registered under the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1997. Registering Equine User Group and Initiating Micro saving Programme for Equine Owners at Nepalgunj

Nepalgunj, October 2016– We strongly believe that human welfare and animal welfare are interconnected and based on this theory, Animal Nepal team went to Nepalgunj to support the equine users group in best possible ways. We realized that their poor socio-economic condition is the root cause of animal abuse. Besides equine business is the least respected business in their community. To change this, Animal Nepal registered an equine user group and also initiated a micro saving programme for them which will be further supported by AN each month. We aim to conduct a rapid community education programme for equine owners and handlers under our project year 2017 to make ever lasting changes in the lives of both human and animal.
